Allen & Overy has appointed experienced communications specialist Maria Darby-Walker as its global head of communications.
Maria has worked for some of the world's leading global brands including Barclays, Rolls Royce, Cadbury and Rio Tinto.
For the past nine years Maria has acted as an independent communications consultant, most recently as interim head of internal and external relations at the Financial Conduct Authority. She has also ten years agency experience, having joined Lansons Communications at its inception, working her way up to partner and board director.
“Securing someone of Maria’s calibre and depth of experience across all channels and across both financial and corporate clients will help bolster what is a very strong communications function at Allen & Overy," explained Richard Grove, Allen & Overy’s director of marketing, BD & communications. "Following a period of counter cyclical investment, expanding the business to 44 offices in 30 countries, how we convey our story to our clients, our people and external stakeholders, is more important than ever and underlines the value we place on professional comms support.”
“Allen & Overy has, without a doubt, positioned itself as one of the leading global brands in the legal market," added Maria. "It has a proud tradition of innovation and market firsts. There is not a part of the economy that its partners aren’t involved in shaping. With such a wealth of content to work with and such a compelling story to tell, it is a challenge any communications professional would relish and one I am very proud to be taking on.”
Maria joins Allen & Overy today and will be based in the firm's London office.
